How we review pet tech

PetChoiceGuide exists to answer one question well: which pet tech is actually worth buying? We're reader-first and independent — brands can't pay for a better verdict, and a product never ranks higher just because it carries an affiliate link.

Our process

We're a research-driven review site. We don't claim to physically test every gadget in our own home — and we think that's a strength, not a weakness. Instead of basing a verdict on a single unit we happened to buy, we study the full picture for every product in a category. For each pick we:

  • Analyze the manufacturer's specs, features, and full pricing — including any subscription or hidden recurring cost.
  • Read through hundreds of verified owner reviews across major retailers to find the patterns: the praise that repeats, and the complaints that should give you pause.
  • Compare each option against its closest competitors on the factors that affect daily use: battery life, accuracy or reliability, app quality, build quality, and value.
  • Weigh it all into a clear score and a plain-English verdict, with the honest drawbacks stated up front.

This approach lets us cover far more products, more thoroughly, than any single hands-on tester could — and it's grounded in the real-world experience of thousands of pet owners, not just one.

How we make money

PetChoiceGuide is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects our verdicts, our scores, or which products we recommend. We only make money if we point you to something genuinely worth buying.

Keeping picks current

Pet tech moves fast. We revisit our reviews and buying guides as new models launch, prices shift, and firmware changes the experience — and we date every update so you know how fresh a recommendation is.
